Ketchup Post
Jul. 25th, 2017 09:46 pmBeen a while since I posted.
- I ended up not toasting my brother and his wife at their wedding party. It was on a boat which rode around in a big circle around the Raritan Bay. But since we didn't have the space to ourselves, as we only had three tables on a boat deck full of people dining and dancing, it would have been tough to make a toast.
I did reconnect with one of my cousins that I didn't really have much of a chance to talk to in a long time. So that was a good thing that happened.
- They opened a Wegman's, which is a really awesome supermarket, near my job. It's a good thing because I can get a good salad for less than the pizza places in the area. Unfortunately, since it's still new, it's an absolute madhouse and the crowds have been ridiculous.
- Anyone have any good suggestions on how to get your mom to stop treating you like a five year old? I don't know what's gotten into my mom lately, but she's gotten on this kick where she's telling me how to behave, what to do, what to eat, etc., and it's been wearing me a little thin. I know she loves me, and I appreciate that, but come on already.

Date: 2017-07-26 12:12 pm (UTC)I saw the Wegmans going up on 287. There's to be another one off the Parkway near Montvale. I wish they'd get them to take over the empty PathMark in downtown Montclair.
Tough one, with mom. Did anything happen that could have triggered it? I think one approach is to be lighthearted about it, just give her a kiss and a squeeze and say, gently, "Ma, I got this." If you think it's being driven by some misplaced nurturing instinct, but you don't know what, maybe there's a way to point out the behavior as a concern, and be like "Is everything okay? I feel like you're really focused on me lately, are you worried about something?"

Date: 2017-07-27 03:18 am (UTC)A Wegman's in the former Pathmark space in Montclair would be awesome; unfortunately, the building is way too small for one.
I know what's bugging my mom, it's that she thinks I'm different and that she can encourage me to change. You can do that to a little kid, but not to a forty year old adult. I usually just nag my mom back, to embarrassing effect. She doesn't like it. Tough prunes. She can stop, too.
