Dec. 10th, 2017 11:45 amSo I managed to get into a car accident on Monday. I was trying to drive through my work place's parking lot on my way to get lunch, and somebody that was coming in the opposite direction turned left in front of me, cutting me off. I tried to stop the car, but I didn't have enough stopping distance, so we collided.
The good thing is that it was a low-speed collision, and nobody was hurt. Police came and took reports, and tow trucks took the vehicles. I think the other driver took the blame for the accident. My insurance company was backing me up since I had the right of way.
The only thing is that given the age (2007 model year) and high mileage (170,000 mi/~275,000 km) of my car, I'm waiting for them to determine whether my car is going to be repaired or totaled. The damage is superficial, but at the same time they aren't going to put $2000 into a car that's only worth $1000. I'm kind of mixed on which I'm hoping for - I'm starting to have some mechanical problems with this one, but at the same time, this one's paid off and I'm not looking forward to having a monthly car payment.
The insurance adjuster is supposed to look at it on Wednesday, and let me know what the prognosis is then.
If you want to see a photo of the car it's at https://www.instagram.com/richaarde/
In other news, I just found out you can set your Instagram so that all can see your photos, but only friends can leave comments. So that's kind of nice - I can leave my account unlocked without being spammed by offers for Russian mail-order brides.
