Apr. 12th, 2006 11:54 pmI actually made it down to the Newark inspection station this morning. I got there about 7:40 am, and there were about five cars in line, with two lanes open. Piece of cake.
I handed the attendant my license, reg & insurance. He took a quick look and handed everything back to me. He told me to wait in the little waiting booth. Things are moving along and then.... everybody stops what they're doing. For 20 minutes nobody did anything. I'm in the wrong business, I tell 'ya. I need a job with the State. I wish I could have a job that gave everyone 20 minute breaks.
After a small and very boring eternity, things started moving again. As the guy was testing my lights, I suddenly realized, oh shit, my parking brake doesn't work. My car moves on down the line, and they hooked my car up to the computer that tells them if my emissions controls are working. The whole time I'm thinking that I came for nothing.
My car lurches forward and then stops abruptly on the brake sensors. OK so far, but that parking brake... They give my car the bounce test to make sure my suspension is in good shape. The car pulls forward, and miracle of miracles, the attendant scrapes off my old inspection sticker and gives me a new one. I passed inspection with no parking brake and with a headlight visibly wired in place.
So those of you in NJ with crappy cars, I highly recommend the Newark inspection station. They'll pass anything.
