It's Politics Time! (Yaay!)
Nov. 1st, 2004 07:33 pmIt's down to the home stretch with the presidential elections. I really hope that Kerry wins. The Dick'n'Bush team just don't give me the sense of security that I think this country needs. And no matter what Dick'n'Bush say, you can't go it alone. You have to have the support of other nations if you want peace. Anything less makes the United States look like pond scum.
At least here in Belleville, NJ, there isn't much else going on politically. Just the President, the US House of Representatives, and the Register (whatever that is, probably a municipal thing). No public questions, no state, county, or municipal elections (except that pesky Register).
I'll vote Democrat all the way across (all three votes, that is). I've always believed that people should work for a living and not sit on welfare, but at the same time, the government should not lighten the tax load on those that are most able to pay it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see a problem reducing taxes on the richest people when the gap between the haves and the have-nots is ever-widening.
For the shortest lines, go and vote early. It's going to be a hell of an election, and polling places will be crowded. For those of you voting in New Jersey, polls open at 6 am.
Whatever happens, the world isn't going to stop turning no matter who's elected. The nice thing about being American is that we can be civil even if we all disagree.
edit: Here's what I wrote in someone else's journal about why I don't like Bush:
I try hard to look past the [political] poo-flinging to see what the candidates are all about. Kerry's shape-shifting image is seriously overblown by the other side, and at least he can change his opinion of a situation if he receives better information. With Bush it's like he's driving on a windy mountain road and he just wants to drive straight ahead, and the road is supposed to straighten out for him, and he would have nothing less.
