Dec. 28th, 2014 10:18 pmChristmas was a lot tamer than I was bracing for. Christmas Eve was just with a few relatives at my dad's sister's house. Other than having two kids and a toddler underfoot, it was relatively tame. I didn't really have to talk much, so I just kind of hung out. Christmas Day was at my parent's house, and there were about 12 people over. That was a lot more work, because I got volunteered to help prepare for the festivities. And because we were the hosts, I couldn't very well duck out of it. I did manage to step away for a while, though, long enough to clear my head. Uncle Boozy managed to keep his drinking down, even.

My parent's computer took a crap. When you turn it on, after the BIOS screen went off, it just says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." I took it to my friend's house, where we burned the files from the hard drive to DVD-ROMs. We reinstalled Windows, and everything seemed OK. I brought the machine back to my parent's house, and got the error again. I tried changing the power supply, that did nothing. I gave up on the computer. I now have to buy my parents a new one (they will pay me back for it).
I'm now worried about getting them a new computer, because I'm going to have to teach them how to use Windows 8.1. While 8.1 isn't as bad as 8 was, it's still a clusterfark, and my parents are not computer-savvy people. I'm not really looking forward to this.

The diet has been going better than I expected. Not great, but not as bad as I imagined. For one thing, it's really easy to boil a bunch of eggs at a time, so most mornings I can just grab two hard boiled eggs from the refrigerator. And as it turns out, there are a number of places near my job where I can get a good salad (compared to my last job, where there was only one place that made salads, and they were really expensive). Dinner is a little rougher to stick to, although I at least sometimes manage.
The nutritionist wanted me to buy fresh vegetables and steam them every day. That was the first thing that went out the window. Yes, the veggies are better for you and they taste better, but it's more aggravation than it's worth. I don't care if it's second- or third-best. I'll stick to microwaving frozen veggies.
Also, every single non-aluminum deodorant has failed me. Either it irritated my skin, or it was wholly ineffective, or both. Even the stuff I thought would work for me ended up irritating my skin. For now at least, I'm back to aluminum stuff until I find something I can deal with.
