Some 400 years ago, our nation's forefathers came to this great nation. They had neither food nor shelter. Had it not been for the native peoples, they most likely would not have survived the winter. The European settlers and the natives had a feast commemorating the mutual cooperation between the two groups.

The part that we as Americans like to forget is that within 50 years, the European settlers began pushing the Native Americans out of their way. The natives were forced them off of their land, killed off, and left without their culture. Americans took this land for their own, without regard to the rights of those who had been there first.

As you all settle down to your turkey dinners tonight with canned cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and that third helping of pumpkin pie, please take a moment to remember those that helped us only to be stabbed in the back. It's far too late to undo the past, but the least we can do is give them the respect that they deserve.
