Jul. 19th, 2006 07:41 pmSo I'm driving on my merry way home from someplace last night and wouldn't you know it, thunderstorms came roaring down upon me. I'm making my way down the highway, and out of nowhere debris appears in my lane. I couldn't get around it and I couldn't stop in time, so I ended up smashing right into it. It gets caught underneath of my car, so I pull over onto the shoulder to have a look-see in the pouring rain.
Sure enough, a suitcase and a big heavy nylon bag were jammed under my car. They wouldn't pull out, so I got into my car and drove backwards a few feet. The luggage moved but wouldn't budge, so I repeated the process two more times. After backing up the third time, I was finally able to pull the luggage out from under my car.
I get back into my car and drive off. Then my steering wheel didn't want to turn. And my air conditioner stopped working. Surprise of surprises, the nylon bag worked its way into the luggage compartment and pulled my serpentine belt off of its pulleys. The belt was still there, and it was still whole, but it was now off of its moorings. Fortunately, the other belt running my coolant pump and alternator stayed on, so I was able to make it home.
I won't be able to fix the belt until this weekend, when I have the time and the tools. On the other hand, if I keep driving without power steering, I can probably drive my way back to physical fitness.
Bah.
