Mar. 5th, 2006 03:44 amThey finally evicted my wino neighbor. It's a good thing. I've seen him crawl out of his apartment maybe twice in the last year and a half, and both times he looked and smelled like he hadn't showered for a few days.
If you get yourself booted out of an apartment in this state, you really have to be trying hard. NJ laws very strongly favor the tenant. The landlord can't even take you to court unless there are three consecutive months of nonpayment of rent. Even then the tenant can get extensions. (By comparison, in PA the landlord can change the locks when the rent is 20 days late) So you really have to be an idiot to get yourself thrown on the streets.
I hate to hear that anyone is losing their home, but enough is enough. It isn't fair that I shell out my $650 a month while this waste drinks his life away without contributing to society.
