One of Monie's friends bought a house in Renovo, PA, about one hour west of Williamsport. Things I discovered on the trip:
-A house in Renovo can be had for $15,000 (Same house in north NJ would run you about $200,000). Granted, there are no jobs whatsoever in the area, but if you like mountains, it's quite a deal for a vacation house.
-People in northeast Pennsylvania should be very appreciative of my work in removing mosquitoes from their evironment. I think all of them landed on my windshield on the ride back. I had to stop at a gas station so I could clean them off. And splattered bugs don't rub off easily.
-The stretch of I-80 that winds through Stroudsburg, PA, is a lousy little stretch of interstate.
-Apparently, PA DOT has no problem with closing one lane of a busy interstate and causing a 45-minute backup for no reason. Seriously, traffic came to a halt and I shut my car off for about 20 minutes. Traffic started moving so I started back up. I moved up about 500 feet, and again traffic halted. I shut my car off for another 20 minutes before I moved again. And I was not able to tell why the lane was closed. No new patches of pavement. Nothing. This would never fly in New Jersey.
-Apparently, New Jersey is no longer ashamed to admit that it exists. The state actually put up a large "Welcome to New Jersey" sign along I-80 near where you cross the state line. Good, this is a step in the right direction.
